Mr Rehman has been passionate about eye surgery for over 15 years. He was appointed consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS trust in October 2002 and has been consulting at the Yorkshire Eye Hospital since early 2003. He has worked closely with colleagues to broaden the services available to our patients - in the process helping to catapult the Yorkshire Eye Hospital into becoming the multi-disciplinary centre of eye surgery excellence that it now is. He has distinguished himself by spearheading virtually all of the major service developments at the Yorkshire Eye Hospital outlined below;
• 2005 The Photodynamic therapy service for patients suffering from AMD
• 2006 Avastin TM anti-vegf injection therapy for AMD,
• 2006 LASIK, LASEK & Implant vision correction service,
• 2007 Lucentis TM anti-vegf injection therapy for wet AMD,
• 2008 IOL-VIP telescopic lens implantation for AMD
Mr Rehman has worked as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Calderdale and Huddersfield since 2002 and has a special interest in retinal diseases and macular degeneration.
Forthcoming developments at the Yorkshire Eye Hospital being led by Mr Rehman;
• 2009 Blade-less all laser LASIK with the Zeimer LDV TM Femtosecond laser,
• 2009 New LMI telescopic lens implant for visual rehabilitation of macular disorders.
Mr Rehman continues to work tirelessly - scouring peer reviewed scientific journals to identify new developments in macular degeneration, cataract surgery and vision correction technology. It is this dedication that allows him to bring major advancements in eye care from around the world for the benefit of all our patients from Yorkshire and beyond.
An exciting new advancement for 2009 will be the introduction of the Lipshitz Mirror Telescopic (LMI) lens implant for AMD. This development has the potential to herald a whole new chapter in our constant struggle to help regain lost vision from disorders of the macula such as macular degeneration.
Mr Rehman is exploring with colleagues and institutions including the University of Bradford’s world renowned department of Optometry the aim of establishing a research arm of the Yorkshire Eye Hospital. Having played a major role in the development of so many of the specialist services at the Yorkshire Eye Hospital, Mr Rehman’s major professional ambition over the next few years is to inspire and oversee the establishment of a centre of vision research at the Yorkshire Eye Hospital.
Mr Rehman has held a substantive post at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust since 2002.
Mr Rehman has contributed to 14 publications and posters and has given 17 presentations to learned societies. Mr Rehman also has four articles in preparation for submission.
