Essentially, your laser surgery aftercare begins from the moment you have your eyes corrected. Your surgeon will review your eyes immediately after the laser eye surgery procedure to ensure all is as it should be. You will then be escorted to a recovery room where you rest your eyes after the procedure.
Hint: You can't drive home after your laser surgery procedure, so we advise that you arrange for private transportation to get you home. Even better, bring a friend with you!
The best advice in terms of laser eye surgery aftercare is to rest your eyes. Don't plan any activities on the first night; instead treat yourself to a relaxing night at home. Some patients suggest putting in a pair of headphones and listening to music or an audio book.
Besides plenty of rest, you will need to take your eye drops at scheduled intervals, and these will be provided for you before you leave the Hospital.
There is a long list of do's and don'ts after the procedure that we'll give to you to take home, the main thing to remember however is not to rub your eyes. Your patient services advisor or ophthalmic nurse will provide you with this list.
Within three days of your treatment, we'll be expecting you for your first post-operative check-up. In terms of LASIK eye surgery aftercare, the healing process is so quick that you are usually given the green light to begin driving again after this appointment. With LASEK, it may take a little longer. This is the first of many post-operative exams you will attend with your optometrist. These appointments will assure that your laser eye surgery aftercare is progressing as it should. Your initial follow up will be followed by visits to us at one week, one month, three months and six months if required.
Most importantly, if you at any time want to come and see us, outside of your regularly scheduled post-operative appointments, simply contact us online or give us a call on 0845 409 2408 and we'll invite you in. Your patient services advisor will be able to answer most questions you may have on the phone.
